  • Underactive Thyroid Conventional Treatment               Click for Homeopathic Treatment

Conventional treatment of Hypothyroidism consists of replacing the deficient hormone with synthetic T4, T3. The physician starts you on a particular dosage of the same depending on your reports and he gradually increases the dosage to suit you. This process will be continued till the time your clinical symptoms improve and your laboratory reports come within the normal range. Once this is achieved, the dosage is maintained and you will have to undergo annual routine check ups to see that your thyroid hormone levels maintain in the normal range.

Major issues with the conventional treatment with Thyroid supplement are as follows:

    • Life long Dependency
    • Once external thyroid hormone is supplemented for a few months, thyroid gland stops making its own supply

The patient has to be monitored for symptoms of over dose which include palpitations, nervousness, increased excitability, sleeplessness, tachycardia, tiredness, headache, tremors, etc.

Surgery is very rarely indicated for Hypothyroidism and is done only in case there is a huge goiter which is compromising the tracheo-oesophageal functioning.
